Solid race in Pietramurata for Calvin Vlaanderen

The Grand Prix of Trentino, the fifth round of the FIM Motocross World Championship, took place today at the Pietramurata track, in the splendid Dolomite setting, in northern Italy. After a sunny day on Saturday, rain soaked the track, changing its conditions for the two Grand Prix motos.

Calvin Vlaanderen put in a solid race, starting in the top 15 at the start of the first heat, finishing in 13th place. In the second heat of the day, the Red Bull Ducati Factory MXGP Team rider started 14th and immediately found a good feeling with the track, climbing with his Desmo450 MX bike at an increasing pace until he crossed the finish line in ninth place, maintaining his 10th place in the championship standings. After a strong qualifying race on Saturday, Andrea Bonacorsi started the first heat in 15th place, finishing in 16th. The second start of the day saw him battle for fifteenth place, which he maintained until lap six before a late drop relegated him to 22nd. It was an unlucky race for Jeremy Seewer, who got off to a good start in the first heat but couldn’t find the best pace, finishing 21st. In the second heat, the Swiss rider found another strong start and was fighting for a good result, when a collision with another rider on a jump, caused an heavy crash, forced him to retire.

Calvin Vlaanderen: “Arco is down, results on paper don’t really show our potential; obviously these results aren’t what we wanted but I can’t be too disappointed about my riding. I think I rode well the whole weekend which is a shame with how it went; I had a couple crashes yesterday and then today again, otherwise I think I could’ve had two races inside top ten. So all in all we keep working hard and come back in France 100% ready and then try to fight at the front.”

Andrea Bonacorsi: “We surely have made a step forward from Riola even if I couldn’t find the right feeling with the track and I couldn’t find my rhythm. I struggled a bit but we’re staying positive; now we have a month of time to work and come back at our best in France.”

Jeremy Seewer: “Thought weekend we had some positives. First start was pretty good and then for the firsts laps it was okay until I couldn’t manage anymore. Second moto I was feeling the best since a long time and I could actually push a bit, I was about to make some good passes and I had good rhythm. Unfortunately I had bad luck jumping together with Van doninck, which was a racing incident. One of the biggest crashes I had in a long time so I’m happy I’m not injured. It was another important weekend to understand what we have to fix.”
