Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP tackled Faenza, in Italy, for the final time today. The third round of the first Italian triple header was run beneath the beating sun and in front of a limited number of fans. The Yamaha team was still riding a wave of momentum, after such positive outings recently, and the Grand Prix of Emilia Romagna was yet another step in the right direction.

Jeremy Seewer continued his run of good form by claiming second place in timed qualifying early on Sunday morning, then immediately jumped into that position in the first moto. Seewer was clearly the fastest rider on track and threw everything at the race leader on the fast-paced circuit. An untimely mistake cost Seewer dearly towards the end of the stint – he was forced to give up his fight for the moto win and settle for third at the chequered flag. The fact that he had the fastest lap of the race illustrates just how fast he was.

Seewer was strong in the second moto too but got shuffled around on the first few laps before settling into fourth. That was the spot that he occupied all of the way until the chequered flag fell, which left him fourth overall and just two points shy of another trip onto the overall podium. Valuable points were gained though – he now runs fourth in the championship standings and just eight points down on the rider in third. Thirty points separate him from the current championship leader.

Gautier Paulin was unlucky not to break the top five, as he had a brilliant start in the first moto and ran up with the race leaders. An untimely fall cost him dearly, but he still remounted and put in a valiant effort to claim an eleventh. That was followed up by a ninth in race two, which put him eleventh overall on the day. Paulin now runs eighth in the championship. The third rider on the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP team, Arnaud Tonus, did not compete, because of the ankle that he injured last Sunday.

Attention now turns to the next Italian chapter of the 2020 FIM Motocross World Championship. The sandy circuit of Mantova will host rounds nine, ten and eleven later this month.

Jeremy Seewer: “In the first moto I had a decent start. I had some bar-banging with Tony [Cairoli], but luckily we did not crash. I followed [Jorge] Prado for the whole moto and I struggled to pass. He made it very difficult and I couldn’t make a pass stick. I pushed, but I lost all of my energy doing so and then I crashed because I hit the limit. I did not make a mistake really – it was just something that can happen in racing. I still managed third. In the second race I got stuck behind Prado again. I could make a pass stick this time, but I already lost some ground. Honestly, I felt a bit empty. I used a lot of energy in the first race battling for the win. It just took it out of me. It’s a bummer to miss the podium, but I have taken good points for the championship. I have no injuries and stuff so that is positive. Now it’s time to recover and keep pushing.”

Gautier Paulin: “In the first moto I went to pass a lapped rider and took a different line, which was like concrete. It was so hard, so I lost the front and hit the ground. I lost a lot of time. I was really disappointed. Last Sunday I had that big crash and I lost a lot of energy from it, so I really felt it in the second moto. I was really pushing but I was lacking a bit of energy. Now my main focus will be to recover and to check that my health is in order, and to recover fully and be fit for Mantova. Overall, I am pretty disappointed with these three rounds in Faenza. The first one was okay, you could really see the real Gautier riding, but I had that big crash and I have not really recovered. I am ready to do some recovery, I am ready to get back to work, to continue training and to be 100% when I get behind the gate in Mantova.”
